Percy Street is quite unique in the area, and dates from the 1830s. Unlike most of the local housing, which is either stucco or brick, these are finished with ashlar sandstone. Percy Street really is rather lovely, and one of the best preserved and maintained in the area. It remains, as it was 170 years ago, one of the finest residential streets in Liverpool. Apart from the excellent townhouses, you can also find St Bride's Church, a hybrid Classical temple which the merchant princes treated themselves to. It's looking a bit shabby now, but the solid columns and Egyptianate windows are still impressive.
